The exhibition ReVision. Photography at the MKG presented the first-ever comprehensive survey of the unrivaled photography and new media collection at the Museum für Kunst undGewerbe Hamburg (MKG). Spanning the period from the dawn of photography to the present, the collection now encompasses ca. 75,000 works. Divided into five sections, the exhibition examined the collection from a variety of perspectives and highlighted its diversity and heterogeneity. Major classic genres such as portraiture, reportage, and art photography shared the stage with examples of photography’s roles as scientific tool and archival medium. In order to treat all genres and images in the same way, we decided to define a horizontal line at 1,20 m throughout the exhibition and align all works at that height. The exhibition was accompanied by an extensive collection catalogue published by Steidl Verlag that we designed as well.
