For decades, the historically Wuppertal-based family of pharmacists Jagla has been producing herbal bitters based on a medieval monastery pharmacy recipe. The foundation of this manufacturing stems from the „Pharmacopoea Germanica“ (German Pharmacopoeia). Until today, the German Pharmacopoeia acts as a valuable reference book for herbalism, quality checks, and the manufacturing procedure of their herbal spirits.
For the brand, we developed a new corporate identity as well as the packaging design for the herbal bitters. For the design, we devised a way to reflect upon the longstanding history of their liquors, while visually translating their historic assets into a contemporary language. The botanical drawings used in the design date back to the period when the recipe was created.
